Equity in Auckland’s Transport System: Report for Ministry of Transport, Auckland Policy Office
This report investigates equity in Auckland’s transport system. Equity is an important consideration because access to transport affects peoples’ lives in positive and negative ways. Understanding those impacts is important if transport policy and investment are to contribute to an overall improvement in wellbeing.
Transport experiences of disabled people in Aotearoa New Zealand
This research was commissioned because there is insufficient current, fully representative knowledge about disabled people’s lived experiences of the transport system across the whole of New Zealand, and what opportunities exist to enhance those experiences. The persistent challenges faced by disabled people using transport in Aotearoa-New Zealand have not changed in any measurable way since the Accessible Journey Inquiry in 2005.
The research is presented in several formats and levels of accessibility.
Street Accessibility Audit (Matamata Piako District Council)
Matamata Piako District Council (MPDC) engaged transport consultants in collaboration with CCS Disability Action to complete a street accessibility audit in Morrinsville. A street accessibility audit is a technical review of street infrastructure that affects disabled people’s independent mobility and access. The audit included a community meeting with members of the local disabled community and a technical audit of paths, road crossings and other infrastructure in the town centre. This report summarises those activities and makes recommendations about priorities for improving the infrastructure.
Disability sector engagement: Good practice guide
It will help all transport professionals to better understand the nature of the disability community in New Zealand, to empower them to find and amplify the voice of those who have most to gain from investment in transport equity. This guide describes why and how to engage with different disability sector groups and disabled people as individuals with specific lived experiences.
Transport Needs in Mercury Bay
Prepared by Bridget Doran Consulting for Waikato Regional Council, this report was undertaken to investigate unmet transport and access needs in Mercury Bay on the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula in rural Waikato. Drawing on community input and local data, it recommends solutions toward challenges such as the cost of crossing between Whitianga and Ferry Landing, limited public transport options, and gaps in local service provision.
